With everything going on in the world and so many things competing for our time and energy it’s easy to feel depleted. It’s easy to just go through the motions. But so many of us are wanting more. So many of us are wanting to feel more vitality, more joy, more connection…

Nikki Weaver and I are excited to announce our next one day retreat for women -

Vibrant Living

Together we will explore self-care, passion, pleasure and joy.

You’ll leave feeling nourished and connected and with a plan for living your own vibrant life!

Nikki will be leading us in yoga before and after our lunch break.

I’ll be asking questions and leading exercises to explore passion, presence and getting clear about what you want in your life.

There will be mindfulness, guided meditation, and a sound bath.

There will be time to share, to listen, to reflect and to connect with other women.

For lunch we’ll walk to a local restaurant to socialize and sit with each other in community.

We are so excited about this offering!

Nikki and I have been exploring what it means to live with presence, pleasure and purpose in our own lives. We are committed to living vibrant lives. In the last year we have been gathering with women and exploring these themes together. And we are excited to explore them with YOU!

Nikki Weaver and I are excited to offer a full day women’s retreat this summer!

After our last two gatherings the feedback we received is that people want more – more movement, more time, more exercises, more connection.

In response, we’ve created:

Wild at Heart: Fanning the flames of your inner fire!

Together we will explore passion, love, connection and tending our own inner fires.

Nikki will be leading us in yoga before and after our lunch break. She’s promised to make us sweat and also lead us in a heart-centered practice.

I’ll be asking questions and leading exercises to explore passion, getting clear about what you want and feeling more alive and turned on in your life!

There will also be a foot soak, a fire ceremony and a sensual walk.

And we’ll be taking a lunch break together during the middle of the day to socialize and sit with each other in community.

Be Your Own Beloved: a gathering for women

Together we’ll explore what it means to love, honor and cherish ourselves!

One of the things we hear over and over from women is that it is so hard to prioritize yourself. Maybe you don’t have time or energy. Maybe you feel guilty or selfish. Maybe you are just too tired or depleted. Perhaps you don’t even know what it means to prioritize yourself. We get it. We know it can feel hard or even foreign to really focus on yourself (and asking you to do more than prioritize yourself, but treat yourself like you are beloved, may even feel scary!)

We also know the power of self-care, self-acceptance and self-love! We know that amazing things happen in your life when you love yourself and honor yourself. And we know the power of gathering a group of women! We know how validating and life-giving it is to sit with other women and laugh or cry or listen or share and hear, “me too!” or “You are not alone!”

Powerful things happen when we gather. Beautiful things happen when we gather. We are so excited to gather with YOU!

Together we will explore –

Self-care, self-love, self-acceptance – what do they all mean and how do you do them?

Being in your body and feeling pleasure in your body

What it means to be your own BELOVED

Light movement and exercises that will help you delight in your own body

Exercises and practices to help you honor your own wants and needs and treat yourself like the precious woman you are!

Pleasure and Presence: A Gathering for Women

How do you nurture yourself during the holidays?

What happens to your self-care and self-love practice as the days get shorter and the to do lists get longer?

I know the holidays can be hard for many of us – Because of grief, or heartbreak, or overwhelm, or stress.

I know it’s easy to put yourself at the bottom of your priority list when it feels like there are so many other things that have to get done.

What would it be like to sit in a circle with other women – to feel seen, to feel understood, to share, to listen, to laugh, to connect, to slow down, to open to pleasure?

I’m so excited to be partnering with my friend, Nikki Weaver, to offer you just that!

On Sunday, December 10th we’re hosting – Pleasure and Presence: A Gathering for Women.

Together we will slow down and explore tangible ways you can be more present and explore more pleasure in your life (even during this busy season).

There will be -

Time for sharing and listening

Light movement

Exercises to help  you slow down and be in your body

And activities that will help you prioritize yourself and your pleasure even after you leave (and you will leave with a pleasure plan to help you relish the rest of this year!)

We’ll provide snacks and drinks

(and Nikki will be sending you home with a yummy scent to help you stay present and open to pleasure too)

As busy mom’s and business owners, we know how hard it can be to carve out time for yourself. We know what it’s like to feel stretched and tired and depleted. We also know the power of gathering in a group. We know how affirming it is do this work in the company of other women and hear, “me too!” or “You are not alone!” Powerful things happen when we gather. Beautiful things happen. And laughter happens too! We are looking forward to a nourishing and delight event!

So much about this time of year focuses on taking care of others and giving to others. This workshop is an opportunity to give to yourself. This is a chance for you to slow down, let yourself receive and honor what you want and need. We are so excited to gather with you!

Are you limiting your joy?

There are so many things that require our attention. And many of these things feel like “work” rather than pleasure. And after doing all of these things, many of us feel too tired to take time for the things that feel really good. Or we are so depleted that even things that could bring us joy and pleasure end up feeling like more work (relationships, being social, parenting, being creative, sex).

Are you limiting your joy?

I know life can be hard. I know there is a lot that is demanding you attention. And I know joy can get lost in the shuffle.

The first thing to do is acknowledge that you are worthy of joy! Experiencing more joy will enrich your life!

And then you make a plan to commit to joy even when you are busy. You find small ways to feel joy throughout your day. You put your attention on joy. You look for joy. You build joy into your life.

One of my favorite ways to build more and more joy is to keep a Happiness Jar. I was inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert talking about her happiness jar. Every evening I write down the happiest part of my day and I put it in my jar. Here is a picture of my jar from today.

Do you see that it is overflowing? It’s halfway through 2016 and I have already had this much joy! I’ve had more than that because these are just the happiest parts of my day! This is a low effort and high payoff practice. I highly recommend starting your own jar and tracking how you feel.

Sensuous Woman

Are you connected to your true sensual nature?

As women it’s easy to be pulled in many directions. You may wear many hats in your life. You may have many roles.

And maybe you have compartmentalized parts of yourself. If you are a mom you may be used to prioritizing others’ needs. If you work outside of the home, you may have shut off that sensual part of yourself so you are taken seriously in the workplace. In general, woman are bombarded with messages about who or how they should be.

Be sexy – But not too sexy!

Take care of yourself – but don’t be selfish!

Be a lady – but not too sensitive.

There are so many ideas about how you SHOULD be. I’m more interested in who YOU ARE!

When you slow down and connect to yourself and your body – what do you want? What feels good? What lights you up? What makes you feel beautiful? What turns you on? What brings you joy or makes you want to dance?

Hey, Mama! I see you.

I was waiting in line to get a pastry and latte today and I overheard two men in front of me who were talking about Mother’s Day.

Man #1 – What are you doing for your wife today?

Man #2 – I don’t know why I have to do anything. She’s not my mom. It doesn’t make any sense to me.

That interaction in combination with reading some articles and posts about people who are struggling with Mother’s Day has me thinking today. It pains me to know that Mother’s Day is hard for so many people. There are so many people who feel grief about the loss of their mom, the absence of their mom, or lack of love from their mom.  There are so many women who ache to have a child or have lost a child or struggled with their role as mom. I know that seeing people sharing the joys of motherhood and their love of their moms can amplify that pain.

I know some people complain that Mother’s Day is a Hallmark Holiday.

I know some people say that Mother’s Day is every day and we shouldn’t need a holiday.

I know that some people say that Mothering is a gift in itself and we should be grateful for the experience and not need anything else.

And also, I know many women who need Mother’s Day. I know many women who don’t know how to ask for a break or breakfast in bed or time to get a pedicure and Mother’s Day is the day they give themselves permission. Mother’s Day is the day they feel seen and appreciated and valued.

So should you have to celebrate someone on Mother’s Day?

No.

You don’t have to do anything. And celebrating someone with a resentful heart probably doesn’t feel all that great for the person being “celebrated.”

For me, Mother’s Day is an opportunity. An opportunity for women to ask for what they need (as a mama or someone who has a mama or someone who is grieving). What do you want or need today?

For me, Mother’s Day is a reminder. A reminder to tell people that you see them and you love that and that you empathize and acknowledge them. Or a reminder that some people you love really struggle with their mom or their grief or their role as mom. A reminder to celebrate yourself and receive celebration.

For me, Mother’s Day is about being seen. So often mothering means doing the work that needs to be done. It happens without comment or witness. And today some mothers may feel seen and appreciated and validated. By their partners, by their children, by their friends and even by strangers. Today as I was out in the world with my daughter people wished me a happy Mother’s Day. It felt lovely.

So today I see you. I’m sorry if it’s hard. I’m sorry if you are grieving. I salute you if you are working hard. I celebrate with you if you are loving life. I see you not only as a Mother, but as a human. If you have the capacity, let today be a day where you reach out to other mothers and celebrate them or other humans who are struggling today and ask how you can offer support.

And if you are feeling unseen or uncelebrated or unloved - I hope that you will mother yourself a bit today too.

Why Paris?

Fifteen years ago I flew from Los Angeles to London and joined my friend (who flew from New York to London) for an adventure. We hadn’t seen each other in a couple years and both really wanted to travel. We lived on opposite sides of the US and decided to meet in London, spend some time there and then fly to Paris together.

London was lovely.

Paris is where I fell in love with myself.

I woke up. I tuned in. I blossomed.

And that continues to happen every time return to Paris.

I’ve gone with with a partner. I’ve gone there as a single mom with a 20 month old toddler. I’ve gone there with a good friend and our young daughters. And every time, I expand. I light up. I love my life more.

Every time I’ve gone  I’ve been a different version of myself. My life has been different. Yet, I still comeback to the version of Julie that I love so much. In Paris, I slow down. I make time for pleasure and beauty. I let myself be seen. I connect to my feminine power.

So why Paris?

Because it is the place I feel most alive. It is the place that instantly brings me into a pleasure position and a receiving position.

I love being a woman. I love it even more in Paris.

I love pleasure. Pleasure is undeniable in Paris.

I love sensuality. I embody sensuality in Paris.

We could do this anywhere. We could gather and explore pleasure and sensuality and luscious living.

But why not do it in Paris?

Why not have a life changing and memorable experience in a life changing and memorable place?

Why not amplify the beauty, the pleasure, the sensuality, the vibrancy, the lusciousness of the experience?

Why not gather and connect with other passionate women, explore these themes together, and then have time to explore Paris?

Why not do it while drinking wine and eating a croissant aux amandes?

Why not come to Paris, let someone else take care of the details about where you will stay and plan adventures for you and then you get to just engage, indulge and have a ball?

I’m still saying, “Yes!” to Paris

People have asked me if I’m still going to Paris after last week’s terrorist attacks.

The short answer is “Yes!”

I will not live in fear.

I will not be careless. I will not knowingly put myself or anyone else in danger.

I am also aware that fear, tragedy, violence, terror – it can happen anywhere. It can happen in Paris. It can happen in Beirut. It can happen in Baghdad. It can happen at home.

And so I live my life in the only way I know how. With love, with pleasure, with connection, with joy, with gratitude, with faith (and maybe some tears too).

And while pleasure may seem frivolous at a time like this. I believe it is necessary.

Pleasure builds resiliency.

With so much darkness and heartbreak in this world, it’s essential to also focus on the good. Don’t ignore the hard or pretend it isn’t happening…but don’t let yourself be consumed by it. Feel the sadness, honor your grief and reach for love and joy and pleasure. This spring I will be doing that in Paris. Won’t you join me?
